Inditex Streamlines Stores, Closing Over 100 Locations

Inditex, the global fashion powerhouse behind brands like Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, and Bershka, has significantly streamlined its physical presence, closing over 100 stores year-to-date. This strategic move, detailed in a recent earnings report, is part of a broader initiative to bolster the company's financial health.
Store Footprint Adjustments
Since October 30, 2024, Inditex has shuttered a total of 132 retail locations. The company concluded the third quarter of 2025, which ended in October, with 5,527 stores worldwide. This marks a notable reduction in the overall store count.
Zara and Zara Home Reductions
Specifically, the Zara brand saw a decrease of 60 stores. A year prior, the company operated 1,588 Zara locations. By October 2025, this number had fallen to 1,528. Similarly, Zara Home experienced a reduction of 27 stores, decreasing from 407 locations a year ago to 380 by the end of the third quarter of 2025. Inditex has not yet provided a comprehensive list of the specific locations that have been closed.
Growth in Select Brands
Despite the widespread closures, two brands within Inditex's portfolio have bucked the trend and experienced growth. Bershka, a popular youth-oriented fashion brand, expanded its store count from 855 locations in October 2024 to 859 in October 2025. Likewise, Lefties, another value-focused brand, saw an increase from 203 stores in 2024 to 213 in 2025.
Continued Global Expansion Efforts
The company emphasized that these strategic closures are not indicative of a retreat from the market. Inditex has continued its expansion efforts, with new store openings occurring in 39 different markets. Recent openings include a new Zara store in the Las Vegas Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in October, followed by a store launch in Charlotte, North Carolina, in December. Additionally, a dedicated Zara Man store was unveiled in Palazzo Verospi, Rome.
Broader Retail Landscape Challenges
Inditex's store consolidation efforts mirror broader trends within the retail sector, where many traditional brick-and-mortar retailers have faced significant challenges. For instance, Victoria's Secret has closed approximately 30 U.S. locations since the beginning of 2025. Claire's, a jewelry and accessory retailer, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, leading to the closure of nearly 300 U.S. stores. Department store giant Macy's has also announced plans to close 150 underperforming stores by 2026.
